The seventh series of notes began entering circulation in October 2015. The themes of the notes remain the same as series six, with the same respected New Zealanders, the Queen, and the flora and fauna remaining central to the designs. The notes have a brighter, clearer look, with the note denomination shown in larger print and greater color contrast between notes. The notes contain more sophisticated security features that greatly enhance the overall design.
Portrait:
Sir Edmund Hillary is New Zealand’s best known mountaineer. In 1953, he and Tenzing Sherpa were the first men to reach the summit of Mount Everest, and in 1958 was the first person to drive over continental Antarctica to the South Pole.
Background:
Mount Cook/Aoraki, in New Zealand’s South Island, is New Zealand’s highest mountain. It was the scene of Sir Edmund Hillary’s earliest major climbing successes, and was regarded by Hillary as one of his favorite mountains.

: Yellow Eyes Penguin is unique to New Zealand and is one of the world’s rarest penguins.
